In order to update and collaborate on resources, we have added all of the sharable resources we have developed on our BCOEL MediaWiki space. You can access the resources and add to our collection by following the instructions below. We have also highlighted some key resources for you to access in the drop-down menu.

BCcampus MediaWiki – BCOEL Space

The BCcampus MediaWiki contains shareable resources and documents from the BCOEL. The wikispace is a collaborative working space for BC postsecondary librarians interested in open education resources (OER) and informally meeting to discover and share ways we can support use of quality OER by faculty and student.

The wikispace contains:

  • Vetted lists of Open Education Resource Repositories
  • Vetted Lists of Open Textbook Sources
  • Definitions related to open education
  • Images and documents from BCOEL and BCcampus

There are a few ways you can use the BCOEL wiki depending on your status.

If you are a local librarian you can create a BCcampus Mediawiki account and add or edit content located in the BCOEL namespace. You can also use the content in the wiki to embed in your own LibGuide or website.

If you are a librarian or educator outside of British Columbia, you can embed the BCOEL wiki content into your LibGuide or website.

Remember: Many people are using the BCOEL wiki content. Any changes made will reflect on every embedded page. If you are uncertain about changes, contact us.

BC Open Education Library Guides

The following guides were developed by a team of BC Open Education librarians from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Douglas College, and BC Institute of Technology. They have also been adapted by Dalhousie, St. Francis Xavier, and Nova Scotia Community College.

As of March 2015, we’ve been starting to create our website/guide content in a mediawiki hosted by BCcampus. Using a mediawiki allows BC Open Education Librarians to collaborate in creating content and share in the updates which are then syndicated to users.

The BCOER mediawiki includes the above guides which were developed earlier in our project work. More subject guides to OER repositories are planned for the future.

If you have questions about BC Open Education Librarians or how this group is using mediawiki, please contact Debra Flewelling, BCOEL Chair at or Brenda Smith, Chair-Elect, .

If you have adapted any of our OER guides or materials for use at your institution, let us know!
